Byron’s is doing so well – amazingly well for having a sticky, grass filled cast on his arm 24 hours a day (they cleaned it today). His vaccination snafu is all cleared up; the doctor faxed a letter of explanation and it was accepted – few! And his shirts are no problem. I was so worried about getting shirts over the cast but regular short sleeve shirts, once size larger, have all been fine.
The therapists and I met this morning to discuss Byron’s treatment plan and goals. They have very high expectations for him. I asked them if they felt he was on his way to meeting them and they said emphatically, “yes!” and that he was improving every day. By the end of the program some of the things they expect he will be able to do are:
Carry a small weighted bucket with his left hand for 150 feet
Pick up a one weighted golf ball at a time and put it in a maze.
Grasp finger foods and bring them to his mouth with minimal assistance
Grasp cymbals and bang them together 3 times
Isolate his left index finger and point to pictures.
Bring a two handed cup to his mouth with no spills
Push his left arm through his shirt 75% of the time.
Ok so here’s the deal, don’t judge, but tonight we visited the suburban mecca Chuckie Cheese – and it’s great! What a fabulous place for a toddler. Lots of climbing things, buttons to push, lights to watch and Bob the Builder! As some of you know, Byron loved to visit the Bob the Builder ride in our local mall until last month. They replaced it with a very bland train. Byron never openly showed he was upset, but boy was he happy to see Bob tonight!
